Giving Seniors Hope: Thanksgiving Luncheon to Combat Food Insecurity Among Nassau County Seniors

WHAT: The Nassau County Council on Aging (NCCOA) will host its annual “Giving Seniors Hope” Thanksgiving Luncheon, bringing together local seniors, community leaders, and “celebrity servers” for a heartwarming event that shines a light on senior hunger in Nassau County. This year’s luncheon represents more than a holiday meal—it marks the launch of a renewed countywide effort to fight food insecurity among local seniors.

To better meet growing needs, NCCOA is postponing its 2026 Gala and refocusing all fundraising toward programs that provide year-round hunger relief. Funds raised will support the Thanksgiving Luncheon, expanded Meals on Wheels delivery, the creation of a food pantry, grocery store gift cards, and transportation vouchers for seniors in need.

VISUALS AND INTERVIEWS: Media will have the opportunity to capture heartwarming moments as local “celebrity servers” attend to seniors for a holiday meal. Interviews with NCCOA President and CEO Janice Ancrum, event sponsors, local politicians, and senior participants will be available.

WHO:

  • Nassau County Council on Aging staff and volunteers
  • Local “celebrity servers” from the community
  • Local politicians
  • Seniors from across Nassau County
  • Janice Ancrum, President and CEO, NCCOA

WHEN:

Thursday, November 20, 2025 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM

WHERE:

Fernandina Beach Senior Life Center 1901 Island Walk Way Fernandina Beach, FL

WHY: Food insecurity affects one in ten Nassau County seniors, creating daily uncertainty and serious health risks. Seniors make up 32 percent of the local population, totaling more than 31,000 people. With rising food costs, transportation barriers, reduced government assistance, and the temporary closures of two of Fernandina's major grocery stores (Publix and Winn-Dixie), many seniors are at an increased risk of facing food insecurity at some point this holiday season. Through “Giving Seniors Hope,” NCCOA is not only serving a Thanksgiving meal but also ensuring that no senior in our community goes hungry—during the holidays or throughout the year.

MEDIA OPPORTUNITIES:

  • Interviews with NCCOA leadership and event sponsors
  • Photos and video of “celebrity servers” and seniors enjoying the luncheon
  • Live coverage of an emotionally resonant and impactful philanthropic event
