Nassau County Council on Aging and Bartram Garden Club Bring Creativity to Local Seniors

FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. — For the past six years, The Bartram Garden Club has supported the Nassau County Council on Aging (NCCOA) by offering design workshops, floral arrangements for Meals on Wheels residents, and garden therapy sessions for NCCOA groups. Last week, several garden club members visited NCCOA’s Just Friends and The Club programs, bringing their familiar spirit of beauty and creativity. In Just Friends, participants created floral designs in vintage teacups, while in The Club they crafted winter-themed centerpieces featuring green foliage, pinecones, deep red cranberries, and glittered strips of gold ribbon.

Chartered in September 2016, The Bartram Garden Club has been a cherished community presence in Fernandina Beach for almost 10 years. In 2019, the group paid its first visit to the Nassau County Council on Aging (NCCOA) for a hands-on workshop making tabletop topiaries with fresh flowers. This same workshop will return to NCCOA on March 5, 2026, with an attendance cap of 12 people.

Beginning with just 26 members, the Bartram Garden Club now boasts nearly 70 members and recently launched a Junior Club. The group prioritizes civic service, floral beautification, and environmental responsibility in all of their projects and collaborations. Together with NCCOA, the two organizations offer a remarkable demonstration of care and commitment to the Nassau County community.

The Bartram Garden Club is federated with National Garden Clubs, Inc. and the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs, Inc., through which they receive support for their efforts, share resources, and collaborate with other clubs towards common goals. Membership is open to all, regardless of gender, age, race, ethnicity, physical ability, or religious affiliation.
