Excellence Starts from Within: Baptist Health Named One of ‘America’s Greatest Workplaces in Health Care’ by Newsweek

The designation highlights the health system's deep commitment to supporting team member well-being, fostering professional growth, and advancing community health

Baptist Health has been named one of “America’s Greatest Workplaces in Health Care” for 2025 by Newsweek. The recognition demonstrates the health system’s steadfast dedication to creating an exceptional and supportive work environment that empowers team members to deliver high-quality care to the community.

“This recognition highlights our team members’ dedication to the meaningful work we do every day here at Baptist Health,” said Kate McCann, MHRD, executive vice president and chief human resources officer of Baptist Health. “We strive to create an environment where individuals find fulfillment in their daily efforts, knowing that their talents make a real difference to their patients and the community.”

With more than 15,000 team members, Baptist Health is one of the largest private employers in the Jacksonville region. Recognizing that an engaged and supported workforce leads to superior patient experiences and a healthier community, the health system continues to expand its support for initiatives that promote well-being and positive work environments. Because of its strong commitment to career development, maintaining a healthy work-life balance and enhancing the mental and physical health of its team members, Baptist Health was the first health system to be named a Blue Zones “approved worksite” by the global organization focused on wellness and longevity.

Team members have access to many health and wellness, professional development and community engagement opportunities at Baptist Health, including:

  • Career Growth Pathways: The health system offers a wide variety of professional development and career growth opportunities to help our leaders and team members thrive. The largest of these is its Nurse Residency Program designed to support newly licensed nurses coming into the marketplace. The Baptist Health Clinical School, a state-licensed entity, hosts the health system’s Certified Nurse Assistant Program, as well as several imaging internships and other programs currently in development.
  • Tuition Support Program: The Learning Education and Assistance Program (LEAP) offers financial support to those pursuing higher education or professional certifications, empowering them to grow their careers and build new skills.
  • Health and Wellness Resources: Baptist Health’s team member benefit offerings are very competitive and include a Healthy For Life program which provides wellness coaching, tools and various health-focused incentives that encourage healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Employee Resource Groups: Baptist Health is committed to expressing a culture of respect and inclusion, where differences and new ideas make the organization stronger, and all people feel valued, through its team member-based interest groups, led by the health system’s CEO. These groups demonstrate Baptist Health’s core values of community advocacy, respect, excellence and stewardship throughout the organization and community.
  • Volunteering Opportunities: Baptist Health connects team members interested in community outreach with impactful volunteer opportunities across the region. Through programs like the Tipping the Scale high school mentoring program and the Pie in the Sky Community Alliance, which fights senior hunger, individuals have meaningful ways to make a difference by offering their time, skills and care to support the community.

“We firmly believe that our team members’ well-being is directly connected to our ability to deliver outstanding care,” said Michael A. Mayo, DHA, FACHE, president and CEO of Baptist Health. “This award is a testament to their collective commitment to excellence and their transformative impact on the health and vitality of the communities we serve.”

In addition to being honored as one of “America’s Greatest Workplaces in Health Care,” Baptist Health also featured on Newsweek’s “America’s Greatest Workplaces in Florida,” and “America’s Greatest Workplaces for Women” lists, underscoring excellence across industry, geography and inclusivity.
