Official Position Statement on Due Process for Business Development and Expansion

The Nassau County Chamber of Commerce exists to promote a thriving, innovative, and inclusive business environment throughout the county. We firmly believe that every business; regardless of size, industry, or tenure, deserves fair, consistent, and transparent due process when applying for expansion, relocation, or startup within our communities.

1. Support for Predictable and Equitable Development Processes

We expect all governmental authorities in Nassau County to apply clear, codified procedures when reviewing applications related to land use, zoning, and business development. All applicants must be evaluated according to objective standards established in law.

2. Protection Against Arbitrary or Discriminatory Treatment

No applicant should be subjected to additional burdens, public scrutiny, or legal reinterpretation that exceed what is required of similarly situated projects. Selective enforcement or inconsistent application of policies undermines community trust and regional economic competitiveness.

3. Expectation for Transparent and Lawful Public Engagement

We welcome informed public input in planning decisions. However, such engagement must be conducted through structured, lawful, and appropriate forums that do not replace or override the established development review process.

4. Call to Uphold the Integrity of Our Business Climate

We expect all governmental authorities to develop and follow review processes subsequently handled impartially, consistently, and in full accordance with adopted plans and ordinances. The long-term vitality of our local economy depends on a regulatory environment that is trustworthy, transparent, and welcoming to responsible investment.
