Comcast Provides Amelia Island Access to Affordable, Secure, High Speed Internet

Whether it is at home or at your small business, being digitally connected is critical here on Amelia Island. To help bridge the digital divide between those who are and are not connected, Comcast ensures that reliable, high speed internet is affordable and accessible.

For years, Xfinity has invested in its network so that it expands and evolves over time. In 2021, a multi-year network initiative was launched. This furthered Comcast’s commitment to reliability and allowed Xfinity to deliver faster download and upload speeds. To signal what Xfinity has built and will continue to build, Xfinity has rebranded their network the Xfinity 10G Network.

The state-of-the-art Xfinity 10G Network is a next-generation broadband network that provides a smarter, more consistent, secure network that provides a powerful connection and builds toward a faster and more reliable tomorrow. Currently, all of Xfinity Internet – both on and off the Island! – is powered by the 10G Network and no new equipment or package changes are required.

If the service cost is a barrier, there is also a federal program that could help, the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP). Comcast is a proud participant in the ACP, which provides eligible households a credit of up to $30 per month toward the cost of their Internet and mobile service.

ACP credit can be put towards Comcast’s Internet Essentials program, which allows qualified households in-home internet access for $9.95 a month. It also provides Amelia Island residents the option to purchase an Internet-ready computer for less than $150 before taxes, plus multiple options to access online digital literacy and skills training. Families that qualify for a variety of assistance programs, including SNAP, Medicaid, Lifeline, or free and reduced-price school lunch and breakfast, and college students receiving Pell Grants are all eligible for Internet Essentials. Internet Essentials and Comcast’s participation in the ACP are a part of the company’s ongoing commitment to bridging the digital divide that began more than a decade ago.
