The board of directors of Keep Nassau Beautiful has announced that Wild Amelia is now a Keep Nassau Beautiful program.
Wild Amelia was organized in 2007 by a group of volunteers dedicated to preserving and protecting the natural environment of Amelia Island. Throughout the organization’s history, it developed and presented free nature education programs to the public. The year-round programs were designed to develop an educated awareness of, and a strong conservation ethic for, the fauna and flora of the fragile ecosystem of Amelia Island. As a program of Keep Nassau Beautiful—a premier community-based conservation organization—Wild Amelia’s educational activities will continue and expand. “For over 15 years Wild Amelia has provided the citizens, residents and visitors of Nassau County unique access to education on the area’s extraordinary environment,” said Josh Baker, chair of the Keep Nassau Beautiful board of directors. “By incorporating Wild Amelia as a Keep Nassau Beautiful program, we can continue that legacy and further emphasize the importance of conserving our natural environment.” “We could imagine no better home for Wild Amelia than as a program of Keep Nassau Beautiful,” said Jody Hetchka, founder of Wild Amelia. “The volunteers who created Wild Amelia are excited to see its future growth as a Keep Nassau Beautiful program.” “Keep Nassau Beautiful was founded to provide activities and educational opportunities that foster an appreciation of, pride in, and responsibility for the natural beauty of Nassau County,” said Lynda Bell, executive director of Keep Nassau Beautiful. “Having Wild Amelia as a Keep Nassau Beautiful program will only bolster our existing offerings to the community.” For more information on upcoming Wild Amelia programs, visit the Keep Nassau Beautiful website at: www.keepnassaubeautiful.org/wildamelia/.
