CHARLOTTE, N.C. (April 21, 2021) Meridian Waste, an integrated, non-hazardous solid waste services company, announces the winners of the second annual 2021 Earth Day-themed children’s coloring contest, “Brightening the World.”
The “Brightening the World” coloring contest introduces the concept of Earth Day and how environmental services and proper waste disposal play a significant role in the health and safety of communities throughout the U.S. and the world. The concept of being clean and green is at the forefront of our culture as essential workers, including environmental services workers, keep communities healthy by collecting and following the proper methods of disposing and processing solid wastes and recyclables.
Contest entrants downloaded coloring sheets from the Meridian Waste website and created artwork using any non-electronic medium.
The contest was open to all children across the country within the designated age categories, and there was no requirement to be a customer of Meridian Waste. Entries were submitted from many states, including Florida, Georgia, Missouri, New York, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia.
In the age category from five to seven years old, the winner is Siddharth Pradeep of Princeton, N.J., and in the age category from eight to 10 years old, the winner is Lily Behe of Webster, N.Y.
“When we developed the coloring contest in late 2019, we never imagined the experience would be a pandemic activity. And now, two contests later, we have given children a stimulating, creative outlet to look forward to,” said Wally Hall, CEO of Meridian Waste. “It’s been our pleasure to offer the contest to all children across the United States. This year’s winners come from outside of our current operating footprint. However, we believe it is our responsibility to help educate and inform children about the role everyone has in protecting our environment.”
The two young artists’ work is displayed at MeridianWaste.com/EarthDayWinners. They both won a grand prize, including a custom Meridian Waste truck plaque to display at home and having their artwork printed on a t-shirt and displayed on the Meridian Waste website.
The contest efforts emphasize Meridian Waste’s commitment to a clean and green community by reinforcing the simple joys of children coloring while utilizing technology to save paper and postage with the electronic downloads of the coloring sheets uploading of the artists’ submissions.
