Ms. May is an accomplished, board-certified attorney with the experience needed to represent a County government. Her knowledge includes multiple areas of Florida law, including but not limited to, civil defense of government entities, land use, zoning, planning, public hearings, legislative ordinance drafting, contracts and procurement, interlocal agreements, and development agreements. Ms. May’s work history includes serving as an Assistant State Attorney in the 7th Judicial Circuit Court, and most recently, as the Assistant City Attorney for the City of St. Augustine, where she served as a legal advisor the City staff and departments, as well as the City Commission and associated Boards. Ms. May received a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Technology from Belmont University and graduated Cum Laude from Barry University School of Law with a Juris Doctor degree. She is a member of the Florida State Bar and has certifications in City, County, Local Government Law and the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida. Ms. May is also a member of the Federal Bar Association; Florida Municipal Attorney Association; Florida Association of Police Attorneys; and the Florida Defense Lawyers Association where she served as Vice-Chair of the Government Law Committee. County Attorney, Mike Mullin, stated, “We are happy that Denise has accepted this position. Her experience and knowledge made her an excellent candidate.
