5/20/22 @ 1:15 p.m.- At Wednesday's meeting, the Board of County Commissioners approved a funding agreement with the Florida Department of Transportation for $9 million in Legislative funding awarded to Nassau County during the 2021 Legislative Session for repair and resurfacing of the southern most portion of County Road 121.
Project design is anticipated to begin in late summer/early fall 2022. The design portion of this project will include a deeper evaluation of the roadway’s structural integrity and identification of the best option for addressing the deficiencies found segment by segment (resurfacing, full reconstruction, etc.) Construction is anticipated to begin early 2023 and will take six to nine months to complete. Since late November 2021, Road & Bridge staff have been diligently working to make temporary repairs to address immediate needs by filling potholes, leveling rutted areas, and leveling the shoulders to allow for better drainage. So far, an equivalent of 24 work days and 1,253 total man hours have been spent on these repairs. Nearly 400 potholes/rutted areas have been corrected utilizing 80 tons of plant mix. A contractor was also used for leveling some rutted areas utilizing 954.50 tons of asphalt. We trust that these repairs have improved riding conditions and we look forward to completion of the final project. If you have any questions about the project, please contact Engineering Services Director, Robert Companion, at (904) 530-6225. -Sabrina Robertson Public Information Officer
