It's Flood Awareness Month! As a voluntary participant in the National Flood Insurance Program that provides residents with flood insurance at premium rates, we will be publishing periodic flood awareness messages throughout the month as it helps us maintain our flood management ratings. Tip #4: Protect Your Property Protect your property from flood hazards. Flood insurance is your first level of protection. Other methods include installing flood vents where appropriate and raising electrical components off the ground. Electrical components include fuse boxes, meters, outlets, switches, water heaters and more. Short circuits in electrical systems caused by flooding systems increases the risk of fire. Raising electrical components helps you avoid that damage. After a flood, an undamaged, operating electrical system will help you clean up, make repairs and move back into your home more quickly.
