Amelia Island Museum of History Program on Cuba Kicks Off Hispanic Heritage Month

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Amelia Island Museum of History's new temporary exhibit will open this Friday. The Cuba Connection: Art from Baracoa, Cuba is a juried art exhibit featuring reproductions of contemporary Cuban artworks.

What is the connection between Cuba and Fernandina? José Martí, Cuban journalist, poet, and revolutionary, stayed in Fernandina in the 1890s to develop the Fernandina Plan, a plot to send men and arms to Cuba to fight for independence. During the 3rd on 3rd lecture at 6pm, Dr. Berta Arias will speak about this unique history. Following the lecture will be a reception and exhibit viewing.

Attendance is $5 for members and a suggested donation of $10 for nonmembers. Masks are mandatory. Seating is limited on a first come, first served basis. This program is wheelchair accessible.
